Wednesday 1/1/14
We wish very Happy, Healthy and Wealthy New Year to all our wonderful family and friends.
Dean and I had a very quiet evening. Â No hoopla here in the bus, just reminiscing on past years.
Our best new years celebration was in 2000. Â Remember the media frenzy about the world coming to an end and the Y2K bug. Â Funny how all that just went away in the new year.
Mount Shasta ski area in northern California had a New Year special which sounded right up our alley. Lift tickets, dinner, midnight celebration and skiing till 2am new years day.
We drove down to the ski park in our old motor home and found a nice spot to camp in the resort parking lot. Â We were all on the slopes within minutes.
The evening celebration was lots of fun but Dean and I decided against the midnight skiing as the runs had got pretty icy. Â A few glasses of champagne might have been involved as well. Â The icy conditions didn’t stop the lads though. They were out till the lifts closed.
After the celebrations finished everyone left and we had the parking lot to our selves. We stayed nice and toasty in the motorhome. Â It was a memorable way to spend the beginning of the millennium.
Happy New Year to you both too! What lovely memories you have. We hope 2014 will bring you many more great ones!
Hi Rose and Dean, Great to hear of your NYE celebrations! As for ours we started the day with an early morning walk on the beach near Ke Nani Kai condo’s where we are staying (belongs to K’s cousin) on Molokai. Then met a retired couple from Canada who told us of a ukulele gig nearby at Coffee’s of Hawaii on the veranda. We were there and soon on the dance floor as our 11th wedding anniversary got announced! There were about 20 musicians–great fun. Grocery shopping and out to dinner at a local place called Paddler’s for another Mai-Tai (doing a study)! A few dances and home by 8 pm. First NYE w/o fireworks which was wonderful. Did you see the Sydney Harbour fireworks on YouTube!? Best in the world, I think.
Love your stories!
Janell and Kevin
I remember we all celebrated NewYears Eve in Ashland…
Hi Carol,
After I had written that post Dean reminded me of our great trip to Ashland. That was a really fun time we had with you.
sounds like you had fun that year, but you always do. Happy New Year to you both,
Donna & Tom
Hi Rose & Dean,
A very very Happy New Year to the both of you.
Your Millenium New Year sounded fabulous, in fact I have saved the picture, if only to show off your hat, like an octopus, love it!!!
We spent that same year down in London with R Kev and a girl he was going out with at the time also called Karen. It was a concert British Gas had arranged and there were a number of groups on as well.
This year we spent with the kids and some of there friends down at Dee Why beach watching fireworks. The fireworks finished at 9 pm as it was mainly for the children. We tried to get a view of Sydney Harbour bridge but could only see the sky lite up in that direction. Every vantage point is taken hours before the start in some cases they camp out the night before. If you want to be right by the bridge you have to pay now it’s all tickets only. So we were very lucky to see 2008 in by the bridge. That was probably our most memorable one, as both Kev and Kevin were with us.
What are your plans for the next few months?
Well I’m babysitting, Eric has gone to play golf with Alex and Abi is staying the next couple of nights with us. She is in her travel cot, but doesn’t want to sleep, she is calling out for Rar Rar (Granddad) and I am laughing while I’m typing this, trying not to go into her, strict instructions.
Give our love to the lads as well, and we’ll speak soon.
Lots of hugs and love, Gina & Eric xxxxxxxxx
