The trip to Valdez was really pretty.  Lots of snowy capped mountains and many glaciers.

This glacier was 4 miles wide at the lower section.

We made use of the one sunny day and hiked in the mountains.

Well the pink salmon were making their way into Valdez Bay so Dean thought he had better jump on board as we have missed the fishing dates for Coho and our favorite Sockeye salmon on this trip.

Dean was using the Kirkwood humane method of calming the captured fish.

There were gazillions of them coming in to spawn.  Dean caught the 6 fish limit.  We grilled one that evening and YUK!!!  it was really not very good.  Found out they are only good for canning.  Since we did not have the pressure cooker canner capability it was goodbye pink salmon.  Back to the grocery store for our salmon I guess.

This is the Harbor at Valdez.  The population is less than 4000.

I’m glad I’ve never needed to be calmed down via the Kirkwood method!
