California Mountains

Sunday 18th May, 2025

We stopped in Bishop California for a couple of weeks. This giant place is a real fixer upper.

The built in shelves were a nice touch.

I wouldn’t want to clean all those windows.

This is more our size.

I wanted to hike across the river and this bridge looked pretty good, it even had a rope bannister. Dean gave it the thumbs down. We are trying not to do too much stupid stuff this year and Dean is the voice of caution.

The bark on this Jeffrey Pine was very gnarly.

Schat’s bakery in Bishop is a real tourist draw.

I have never seen so much baked stuff.

The place was packed on the weekends.

I noticed this sign on a walk around town.

There was still too much snow to hike very high in the mountains.

The road to the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest was open. We were able to drive in just a bit before it got too snowy.

I don’t feel quite so old when I’m hugging a several thousand year old tree.

Bodie Ghost Town was interesting to walk around.

Dean really liked this old Ford truck.

Fancy ironwork was around the graveyard.

A great 9 mile hike had a lovely alpine lake. We found a comfy log to sit and eat our lunch and admire the view.

The bugs were getting bad. Not biting but gazillions of them and they all wanted to move into the camper with us! Time to head north

Wow!! You guys look quite snappy!! The mountains are quite good for you! I guess you here them calling! Looks like so much fun! Loved all the photos1 That bakery was to die for! They would have to bury me in there! I’ll have to show these pics to Ronnie! He will love the old Ford truck and the shell of a building. Love the picture of you two with the lake and snow covered mountain background! Where to next Safe travels! Love you! Sis

    • We are planning on spending a couple of weeks near our boys. Then moving slowly towards Idaho. It will be great to see them. Do you guys have any good summer plans lined up? Are you still hiking with your buddies?

Good Morning to you both, this is my second try to respond. when i try on my phone it disappears. i always respond but i usually don’t check to make sure it works. enough of a gripe, you two look great, the outdoors is so good for your health! I agree with you Dean, the old Ford was my favorite of this post. Ive always wanted a built hot rod like Gary used to build. put a big block with a tubbed rearend and we could cruise with your Dangerfeild buddy we met in Florida with his Plymouth hotrod! Enough dreaming, have more safe travels and keep the posts coming! M&M

I believe mid 40s! I could have bought a 55 Chevy 5 window with 502 big block tubbed without paint or interior for $10,000 but would have taken another $10,000 to get it done! Not willing to st the time! Let’s see if this goes on my phone this time? M&M
